Interactive week

Week six means yet another tremendous busy but fruitful week. The articles for the week were carefully chosen and bravo to Robert and his team.

How to handle the large classes in any institution of any level is a big challenge for many teachers. Many have resorted to lecturers where the teacher/lecturer talks to himself because students are doing their own businesses like making noise or discussing unrelated issues. At the end no learning takes place although there is some teaching. This week’s learning has offered a very crucial way out of this bad teaching. Teachers should involve students through interactive teaching. Teachers cannot afford to assume the role of an auto pilot who sometimes lets the plane fly on its own. For effective teaching to take place both the students and the teachers must participate fully.

The idea of PPT is also very important to me. The readings for the week provided us with very effective guidelines on how to create a Power point. I have also learned that the PPT show should not replace the teacher. The teacher still occupies a far much superior position compared to the PPT. Although personally I have not been using it I now have a good reason to pressure the administration to buy necessary gadgets.

  1. Hi Francis,

I totally agree with you on the excellent quality of the material for this week. You have a point when you say that the role of the teacher is essential to create the right conditions for any productive learning to take place. No doubt this challenge is greatly increased when teaching large classes. Using interactive ppts definitely offers a useful alternative for teachers to engage students and enhance their learning in those contexts as well.

I hope you can persuade the administration at your place to make the right decisions.

    Best,

  2. Hello Francis!!!

I always love your comments, so congratulations for this new one. I totally agree with your point of view when talking about INTERACTIVE PPP. They are really important for a learning-teaching process and engage students to study English with different resources. You can read it in my blog.

As for resources, I do not have any that can help me design and work with this kind of classes! The school does not have any overhead projector, video beam, a computer or laptop, anything that can help me accomplish this goal. I´d love to have interactive PPT but unfurtanetly I can´t because of the lack of resources francis. I´ll try to pressure the administration, too!

  3. Hi Francis,

I agree with what you say here. Interactive classes have beneficial effect on both students and a teacher. I think that the use of powerpoint presentations in class could replace tons of posters, handouts and books. That's all thanks to a powerpoint software, the internet and useful tips from Deborah Healey and others! Amazing!
